CLEANUP! Red Carpet!

golden-globes-2014-pipe-burst-floodPipes are seriously exploding everywhere in the United States. Not even Gucci gowns and beautiful weather could keep the red carpet dry. It was a sunny day in Los Angeles for the 71st annual Golden Globes, and less than 2 hours before the guests of honor arrived, a pipe burst, pouring 5,000 gallons of water into the area where several reporters were stationed with their cameras.
While some people connect busted pipes with icy cold temperatures, the incident was reportedly generated when a large light used for video production was positioned too close to a heat sensor, which then tripped the sprinkler system. Can happen anywhere. And does.
Water has a unique property that makes it expand as it freezes. This expansion puts large pressure on its container, including metal or plastic pipes. No matter how strong the container is, expanding water can cause pipes to burst, in the same way that a can of soda – accidentally left in the freezer – will also explode.
Surprisingly, ice forming in a pipe does not typically cause a break where the ice blockage occurs. If the water contained in the pipe expands enough, the pipe will burst, water escapes and serious damage is the result. If this damage happens to your property, call the experts at Paul Davis to handle it for you.
